Orthodontic PainTreatmentsIf your baby seems uncomfortable while teething, you may want to consider a topical anesthetic, or a mild ibuprofen pain reliever, such as Infants' MOTRIN* Concentrated Drops, which can be used for children as young as 4 months of age. Older children can be treated with Children's MOTRIN* Suspension liquid. Ibuprofen is particularly effective for dental pain because, unlike acetaminophen, ibuprofen reduces pain caused by inflammation and stops pain where it starts. Similarly, pain from braces can be eased with ibuprofen. Try Children's MOTRIN* Suspension liquid if chewing is painful for your child, or Children's MOTRIN* Chewable Tablets or Junior Strength MOTRIN* Chewable Tablets for fast and effective pain relief. If your child is over 12 years of age, he or she can take adult Super Strength, Extra Strength or Regular MOTRIN* IB tablets for the best possible results. If you are unsure why your child is experiencing dental pain, it is important that you visit a dentist as soon as possible. You can give your child MOTRIN* to make him or her more comfortable until you are able to get a dentist appointment. If your dentist finds that your child's pain is caused by a cavity, the decay will need to be removed and the tooth filled. If the decay has reached the pulp of the tooth, extraction or root canal may be necessary. After any dental procedure, MOTRIN* will ease the pain as your child's irritated teeth and tissues heal. Thrush is easily treated with a topical anti-fungal medication and a pain reliever to reduce the pain of inflammation while your child's mouth heals. |
