Cold & FluRecommended TipsAlthough there is no cure for colds or flu, these tips will help your child's recovery and reduce the chances of passing on the infection: - For a "heavy" cold, and for flu, keep your child home from school and ensure that he or she gets plenty of rest. Explain that lots of rest during a cold or flu helps his or her body recover more quickly.
- Give plenty of fluids, especially water.
- Keep your child's room well humidified to make breathing easier.
- Teach your child to cover his or her mouth when sneezing or coughing so that they don't spread the virus.
- If someone is sick in your household, encourage the use of separate towels, separate drinking cups, and make sure that dishes are washed well and in hot water.
