Recommended Tips

To help reduce the chances of headache:

  1. Manage stress, stay rested, get a good night's sleep and do not overwork.
  2. Eat regular, well-balanced meals and keep hydrated.
  3. Avoid excessive alcohol.
  4. Avoid excessive sun exposure, bright lights, loud noises or strong odours, and smoke-filled places.
  5. Dress sensibly for indoor and outdoor temperatures.
  6. When travelling, give your body time to adjust to any time changes.
  7. Be aware of the side effects of any medications you may be taking. Some cause headaches or make headaches worse, e.g., birth control pills, high blood pressure medications and nitroglycerin.

For migraine sufferers:

  1. Keep a detailed record of your migraine attacks to help identify triggers, such as food and beverage intake, weather, emotional situations, stress and menstrual cycles.
  2. See your doctor. You may require specific migraine medication if migraines seriously disrupt your life.
