Cough, Cold & Flu

Recommended Tips

When you have a cold or flu try to follow these tips:

  • Stay at home and get plenty of rest to help your body recover.
  • Drink plenty of fluids, especially hot drinks (e.g., chicken soup, lemon tea) because the steam helps to loosen mucus.
  • Keep the air around you well humidified to make breathing easier.
  • Gargle with warm salt water to soothe the sore throat or suck on a medicated throat lozenge.
  • Apply petroleum jelly under your nose to make nose blowing less painful.
  • Cover your mouth when you sneeze or cough to avoid spreading the virus.

If symptoms last longer than 2 weeks or occur often, this may be an allergy and not a cold, and you should see your doctor.
